One Person Killed, 4 Injured in Freeway Accicent

A car accident today on Harbor Freeway, in Los Angeles, claimed the life of one person and injured four others, according to authorities.

A vehicle with four men was heading southbound on 110 Freeway at 5:20 a.m. when the car was involved in a multiple-car collision, according to a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The vehicle caught on fire and one person was unable to exit until authorities arrived on the scene.

Five people were transported to local area hospitals for treatment. One of the injured passengers died at the hospital. Another victim is listed in critical condition and two are in moderate condition. One suffered minor injuries.

Traffic was backed up during the close of two carpool lanes while officials worked to clear the scene and investigate the accident. The lanes reopened at approximately 9 a.m.

Tragic Car Accident Claims the Lives of Three Small Children

Three children were tragically killed in a car accident today, when the Ford Expedition they were driving in crashed with a Chevy Truck, driven by an off-duty Sheriff Deputy, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The Expedition driven by the mother, 26, of Visalia, was traveling north on Road 172, according to an officer at the scene. The driver of the truck, 27, of Exeter, was traveling west on Avenue 336 when he failed to stop at a stop sign before turning onto Road 172.

The Truck broadsided the Expedition, causing both vehicles to spin out of control and into an orange grove at the northwest corner of the intersection.

The off-duty officer was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle.

The three small children ages 2, 3 and 5 were riding in the backseat and did have seatbelts on. The child sitting in the middle in a car seat, was ejected from the vehicle due to the force of the crash, according to CHP.

All three children died at the scene. The mother suffered serious injuries and was transported by air helicopter to Regional Medical Center.

Toddler Killed in Driveway Accident

A driveway accident tragically claimed the life of a 14-month-old child this morning, when the father ran him over outside their home in North Hollywood, according to authorities.

The toddler was transported to the hospital where he died shortly after. The accident occurred at 7:20 a.m. this morning, according to a Los Angeles Police Officer.

The man, whose name has not been released, was backing the vehicle out of his driveway when the accident happened.

Teen Ejected in Car Accident Involving Drunk Driver

The driver of a speeding car suspected of driving while under the influence, veered off the road and struck a sign, causing his 17-year-old passenger, not wearing a seatbelt, to be ejected from the backseat , authorities said.

The passenger sustained serious injury in the car accident, according to California Highway patrol.

The accident occurred on Friday, at 2:45 a.m. when the 23-year-old driver of a 1988 Oldsmobile failed to manipulate a curve in the road. The driver lost control of the vehicle and spun onto the shoulder, hitting a curb and striking a sign.

The driver, who was wearing his seatbelt, was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence. He suffered injuries in the crash but to what extent is unknown.

Police Officer Pulls Driver from Burning Vehicle

A driver traveling on the Southland Freeway struck the center divider causing his engine to catch fire in a car accident on Friday. Trapped in the vehicle, the man owes his life to an L.A. police officer who pulled him from the burning vehicle.

To rescue him, the officer had to break the passenger window of the burning vehicle. Fortunately, the man only suffered a broken collar bone in the accident.

Prior to the accident, the officer was traveling behind the driver on the Freeway. A car sped by him and headed south on the freeway. The officer followed the vehicle to get the license plate number because he thought he may have fled a crime scene.

Turns out, the car was not stolen and the driver was sober, he was in a rush to get home.

Infant Killed in Driveway Accident

A one-year old boy was tragically killed in a driveway accident, on Thursday, when a car backed over him, according to hospital officials. The boy's grandmother was a passenger in the car at the time of the accident.

"We just heard a thump," said the sobbing Grandmother.

The infant was killed in an alley located behind the Grandmother's home at 8 p.m., Thursday, said an officer with the California Highway Patrol.

The grandmother said the infant was covered in blood when his mother ran over to him following the accident. Rescue performed CPR prior to transporting him to Kern Medical Center where he later died.

Neither the driver nor the grandmother saw the boy as they began backing out of the driveway, on their way to the grocery store. Officials say they believe the car was going 2 mph when the accident occurred.

The accident is still being investigated.

UIC Professor, Wife Killed in California Accident

A speeding car hit and killed a University of Illinois Physics Professor and his wife while they were taking a walk Monday evening.

The professor, 65, and his wife, 57, were killed Monday in San Jose, California, when the driver of a speeding car lost control and struck them in a car accident.

California Highway Patrol reports they were pronounced dead at the scene. The teen driver and his passenger were also killed in the crash.

CHP says the car was going approximately 80 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour speed zone at the time of the crash.

The professor and his wife owned a home in San Jose as well as Chicago.

JanSport President Killed in Car Accident

The president of JanSport, one of the most popular names in backpacks, died in a car accident Saturday when he crashed into a tree.

Michael Corvino, 66, was driving his 1970 Dodge Charger when he veered off the road, striking a tree, said California Highway Patrol.

In the car with Corvino were three passengers including his 16-year-old daughter, who suffered minor injuries and was transported to John Muir Medical Center.

"He was a wonderful, wonderful man. There was something so special about him," Joyce Corvino said. "He made everyone laugh."

Corvino was born in Philadelphia. He played linebacker for the University of Maryland and later joined the Washington Federals in the U.S. Football League.

Frank Fenton, vice president of sales at JanSport, said his friend "Vino" loved to drive and ride his Harley. They golfed together.

"He was bigger than life," Fenton said.

Rollover Accidents and Seat Belts

Here are two news stories of today showing us why we all must wear seat belts and why children must be properly restrained in car seats, when riding in automobiles and the consequeces of our choices. There are more than 10,000 automobile rollover accident deaths a year in the U.S. The majority of those people would be alive today if they had been wearing seat belts or were otherwise properly restrained in car seats.

A Chicago toddler being held by his mother died when the family's van overturned on Interstate 80 about seven miles west of Elko. Juana Pintor, 24, was holding her son, Victor Manuel Reyes, 2, on her lap about 9 p.m. Monday when the eastbound 2000 Mercury van driven by VictorLeon Reyes, 28, drifted into the median, causing van to roll several times. The boy and his mother, not restrained by seatbelts, were ejected, Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper George Edwards reported. The mother and daughter Maria Pricila Reyes Pintor, 4, were flown to Northern Nevada Regional Hospital with serious injuries. The driver and passenger Lazaro Varez, 23, wore seatbelts and were not injured.

Thirty people a DAY die in rollover automobile accidents. Fifteen people a DAY could have been saved if they were properly belted or in child car seats. More American lose their lives every day on our highways due to failure to wear seat belts than we lose in the wars Iraq and Afghanistan.

Yes, sometimes seat belts do fail sometimes. It is rare. When someone is seriously injured partially due to a seat belt failure, call us. We will hold the automaker responsible for those injuries. Play the odds, "buckle up." Please.

Now compare this story:

A Las Vegas family escaped with minor injuries Sunday after the vehicle they were traveling in overturned about 25 miles north of Ely. William Walo was driving northbound on U.S. Highway 93 at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday when his vehicle drifted off the paved portion of the roadway and struck a road marker. According to Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper George Edwards, Walo then over-steered his vehicle to the left in an attempt to regain the roadway and lost control.. The vehicle overturned, and landed on the east side of the roadway. Walo and his family were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident. Walo, his wife Karen, and their children Jacob and Katherine were transported to William Bee Ririe Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The Nevada Highway Patrol urges travelers to refrain from driving if they're tired. Travelers should get plenty of rest before they hit the road, and everyone should always buckle up.

Girl, 11, Charged with DUI

After chasing a vehicle over eight miles, at speeds up to 100 mph, police discovered the unruly driver was drunk.

But, what Police were not expecting when they looked inside the flipped vehicle, guns drawn - was that the driver was an 11-year-old girl.

The girl is now being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless endangerment, speeding and leaving the scene of a car accident.

One has to wonder how an 11-year-old was able to get drunk and behind the wheel of a car without any adults noticing. Thankfully no one was injured in the accident.
