Southbound Interstate 15, past state Route 94 was closed for hours on Monday due to a motorcycle accident that involved a San Diego Motorcycle Officer, authorities said.

California Highway Patrol initially reported the officer crashed with a truck. However, a officer with the San Diego Police Department reports the officer laid down his motorcycle for reasons that are still unknown. The officer suffered a broken leg during the incident.

Witnesses told officials that the officer had driven off a connector ramp from state Route 94 when he crashed with a green Cheep Cherokee.

It is unknown if the driver of the jeep was paying attention, but it did make bumper to bumper contact, causing the motorcyclist to spin, witnesses say. The jeep fled the scene of the crash and officers are still searching for the driver of the vehicle. An investigation is pending.
