A 22-year-old man out drinking with friends, had his leg severed when he was struck by a train after he slipped on the train tracks on Saturday, according to a San Diego County Sheriff.

The man was with his friends who were reportedly drinking prior to the accident and disregarded the posted "no trespassing" signs in front of the tracks, said a San Diego Deputy. The man was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital. It is unknown which leg was severed or how the unidentified man is doing.

The accident occurred on the tracks at 8th Street, just after 6:40 on Friday evening. Witnesses report a group of teens were running down a small hill toward the tracks when the victim slipped and fell, just before being hit by the northbound Coaster train.

The accident is currently under investigation.
