The largest U.S. natural food store, Whole Foods Market, is recalling sesame butter for possible salmonella contamination. ConAgra Foods Inc. recalled peanut butter tainted with salmonella just three months ago.

There have not been any confirmed illnesses reported to date, Whole Foods said in a statement by the FDA. The recall is for a Whole Foods brand of "tahini," a form of ground sesame.

Approximately 1.4 million Americans are infected with salmonella bacteria each year, reports the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The product is 365 Organic Everyday Value Sesame Tahini in 16-ounce jars and is marked as best sold by Oct. 2, or earlier, this year. The Whole Foods release was dated May 22.

Ingesting foods that are contaminated with salmonella can cause severe diarrhea, fever and cramps. Most people can recover without treatment. However, elderly people, young people and persons with weak immune systems can have more adverse reactions. If left untreated, salmonella poisoning can be fatal.
