Mars Petcare Recalls Krasdale Dog Food for Salmonella Contamination

Mars PetCare Inc. and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a voluntary recall in five states of select Krasdale Gravy dry dog food for possible salmonella contamination.

Salmonella contamination can cause serious adverse health affects in dogs and cats and in some cases be fatal.

The five pound bags of recalled dog food were sold in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. The recalled Krasdale Gravy dog food has a best-by-date of July 16 and 17, 2008 and a UPC code of 7513062596.

Pet owners should carefully discard any recalled pet food and return the empty bag to the store of purchase for a full refund. The FDA warns: Salmonella contamination can be transferred to people who handle the recalled pet food and as such should be sure to wash their hands thoroughly and disinfect any surfaces the tainted food was in contact with.
