Two Killed in Firery Crash, One in Critical Condition

Christina ColeMay 21, 2007 1:36 PMTwo people were killed and one seriously injured in a four-car accident, Monday, on Pacific Coast Highway at 6:30 p.m., police said.
A Honda was speeding when the driver lost control of the vehicle on Anderson Street, striking three other vehicles. The Honda swerved to the side into oncoming traffic where it was hit by a Ford Expedition, which split the car in half.
The front half of the car continued on and was hit on the passenger side by a BMW, causing a small engine fire to erupt in one of the vehicles. Witnesses tried to extract the driver from the burning vehicle but were pushed back by the flames. Authorities believe the driver was killed instantly upon impact.
A 50-year-old man, the driver of the BMW and a 17-year-old boy, passenger of the Honda, both died at the scene. Their names have not been released pending family notification.
The 20-year-old man seriously injured in the crash was taken to Long Beach Memorial Condition and listed in critical condition.
Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident.
