A three-car accident that closed portions of the southbound Interstate 405 (San Diego) Freeway for nearly five hours early Friday morning claimed the life of a 24-year old Laguna Hills man according to a story in the Orange County Register.
Christopher Laurent was returning to Orange County from Sherman Oaks when he when he struck the center divider near Bel Air Crest road in Los Angeles, disabling his vehicle, according to California Highway Patrol reports.
After Laurent excited his disabled 2005 Lincoln sedan, it was struck by a 1996 GMC truck driven by Vickie Clifford of Crescent City, causing Laurent into oncoming traffic in the southbound lanes. He was then struck by an unknown vehicle that did not stop, the CHP report shows.
When you are involved in an automobile accident, be cautions about exiting your vehicle. If possible, do not stand on the side of your vehicle away from where traffic is approaching. You generally want to be on the on-coming traffic side of your vehicle. Move away from your vehicle as soon as it is reasonably safe to do so.
We just concluded a case of a college girl who lost her leg in a freeway accident. Her vehicle was disabled after striking the center divider in a rain storm. She had one leg out of her vehicle and one leg in as she was reaching for her cell phone when another vehicle collided with the door of her vehicle smashing her leg trapped between the door and her vehicles frame.
Please be careful when exiting vehicles after an accident.
