Did computer use while driving cause fatal auto accident?

California Highway Patrol officers found a computer plugged in and still running, even though the screen was shattered, in an auto accident Monday, after they discovered the 28 year-old driver dead. It appeared to the officers that the Chico, California computer tutor had been using his computer when his car crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a Hummer.

According to USA Today, a Utah study indicated that engaging in such distracting behavior can be as dangerous and disabling as driving drunk. While the Utah study only considered cell phone usage one can only surmise that typing on a computer while driving would distract and impair any driver. Just another reason that multitasking while driving is a bad idea!
